Call 866-869-3335 to Get the Right Non-Trucking Liability Insurance for Your Trucking Business at an Affordable Rate
If you are operating a motor carrier under a permanent lease, then you have commercial liability insurance through your commercial carrier; however what about those times you are operating your motor carrier for personal use? If an accident happens when utilizing the truck for personal use, your commercial liability insurance would not apply. The good news is that Paramount Insurance can get the right Non-trucking Liability insurance for your trucking business at an affordable rate.
What is Non-Trucking Liability Insurance?
Non-trucking Liability insurance (NTL) is liability insurance designed to kick in when you are using your commercial vehicle/truck for “personal” use. Any time you are under dispatch, the commercial liability insurance carrier provides the necessary liability protection; but once you get into the vehicle to run errands, pick up children from school, or go to dinner, you would need an endorsement to modify the liability portion of the policy in order to get the necessary insurance protection.
NTL pays for expenses associated with property damage(s) or injuries that you cause while operating your commercial vehicle for non-business purposes.
*Nearly all motor carriers require owner/operators to carry NTL.
Many people confuse non-trucking liability insurance with bobtail insurance; however they do not mean the same thing. While most motor carriers require NTL, it is still recommended you verify with your motor carrier which coverage
you need.
Some Restrictions Apply
Non-trucking Liability insurance does NOT provide liability protection during any time period that you are operating on behalf of the trucking company, hauling goods for revenue/business, or pulling a loaded trailer. This type of activity is covered under the primary motor carrier’s liability insurance. Simply put, any time you are operating the commercial vehicle under dispatch, NTL would NOT apply and is designed only for liability protection during personal use.
Keep in mind that NTL does not provide any insurance protection for physical damages to your truck. If you are an owner-operator driving your motor carrier on a lease, you may be required to carry your own physical damage insurance to protect your truck.
